Thank you for your bead kit purchase!
Are these beads really made out of paper?! Yes, they are! Each bead is hand rolled by our artisans and strung to make unique and beautiful jewelry they create. Paper beading is a skill that many Ugandan women are taught and it has been passed down by generations. The papers (usually recycled) are cut specific to the shape of the bead they want to make and then rolled one-by-one. They are then usually strung together on long strings of line and hung out in the sun where they put a clear coat of lacquer to harden them and make them more durable. The process from bead to a finished necklace or bracelet can be days depending on how intricate the design is for the jewelry. They truly are works of art and that makes each piece one-of-a-kind.
